Silver Hollowware
This item sold!
Sterling Silver Water Pitcher by Tiffany & Co.
During the late 1800’s, the water pitcher was considered
a staple in every “proper” Victorian home. Fresh water was not only
a necessity to one’s diet, it also had to be available to guests at a moment's
notice. And what a wonderful way to serve a refreshing glass of water on a hot
summer day.

This specific water pitcher design was first introduced by
Tiffany & Co. in 1870 and soon became a best seller. Various versions are
in major collections throughout the United States, all with slight variations
of detail. Some feature elaborate engravings while others showcase detailed repousse
designs. The pattern date on this exact piece is circa 1870-1874 and has the “T”
mark, signifying that it was produced under Charles L. Tiffany’s leadership.
The beautiful banded design would complement many flatware patterns, including
Tiffany & Co.’s Richelieu.
The height of this piece is 8 inches (to the top of the spout) by 4 ½ inches
(the width of the base). It weighs 21.32 troy ounces.
