Winthrop-Chased Silverplate Tea Set by Reed and Barton
The handsome 6-piece silverplate tea service
featured below was first produced in 1850 and named for John
Winthrop, first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Its basic design
is a modification and refinement of the "pear shape" that was popular
at that time.

The lavish hand-chasing adds to the gracefully fluted lines
of this service. The shape of each piece is accented by the flowing
lines of the feet, handles, spout and finials. The hand chased design also
serves as an ideal frame for a monogram. The set consists of a coffee pot, tea pot,
cream pitcher, covered sugar bowl, waste bowl, and waiter tray. The beautiful set would most complement any pieces in
the Winthrop-Plain and Winthrop With Shield patterns.
