Replacements, Ltd. Receives HRC’s Top Score

The Federal Report, The Human Rights Campaign Federal Club Newsletter, September 2003 – Replacements, Ltd. is a company dealing in hard-to-find discontinued patterns of china, silver and crystal. Located in Greensboro, N.C., the firm has about 625 employees. When ranked against hundreds of other American companies in HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, the firm is one of only a handful of companies to receive a 100 percent score two years in a row.

How did Replacements succeed when so many higher profile companies failed? By consistently creating a work environment where every employee feels safe and comfortable. And by backing up that philosophy with an official non-discrimination clause that covers veteran status, disability, age, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Owner Bob Page and his partner Dale Frederiksen have built an impressive company which truly lives up to its ideals. Employees enjoy an impressive benefits package and a casual work atmosphere. In fact, on a typical day, most employees, including the owners, are wearing blue jeans, and 30 or more employees have brought their dogs to work.

Bob and Dale’s commitment to equality goes beyond the workplace, too. They’ve both been Federal Club members for many years, and Replacements is a bronze level HRC national corporate sponsor. The two also recently contributed to HRC’s capital campaign.

The index assigns scores to companies on a scale from 0 to 100 percent, based on how well they treat GLBT employees, consumers and investors on non-discrimination policies and other factors.
