Replacements, Ltd. offers free screenings as part of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

GREENSBORO, N.C. –   As a tie-in to Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Replacements, Ltd. will offer free workplace screenings for the company’s male associates during the week of September 17, 2007. This testing is part of Replacements’ overall company wellness program. 

“The convenience of holding our PSA screenings on site really increases the likelihood that more of our employees will have the tests done,” said Carol Harris, Replacements’ occupational health nurse. “Many men don’t want to take the time to leave work and go wait in a doctor’s office so they either put off getting screened or never go. That delay could be life threatening, especially when you consider the American Cancer Society reports one out of every six men will develop prostate cancer and it’s the second leading cause of cancer death among American men.”

Since Replacements started offering PSA screenings three years ago, three employees have tested positive for this type of cancer. Micheal Quinn believes this part of the company’s wellness initiatives saved his life. “I put off going to my regular doctor, so there’s no way we would have caught my cancer early on if it hadn’t been for the testing at work,” says Micheal Quinn. “Because of the early intervention, I was able to get treatment a few months ago and now I’m cancer free and moving on with my life. This is such a simple test, I’m encouraging everyone here to take it.”

Forty-two associates took part in last year’s screenings, while Harris expects even greater participation this year. In related news, Replacements will offer free mammograms for the company’s female associates in October as part of national Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
