Our featured china pattern this month is Manoir by the Villeroy and Boch Company of Mettlach, Germany. Manoir is a French word meaning "manor house" or "country estate." The Manoir pattern is manufactured by a German company, but the design itself is very strongly influenced by the French. This beautiful pattern features an eggshell color on a durable stoneware body. The scalloped rim of each piece is defined by a series of repeating lines. The Villeroy and Boch Company designed Manoir in the "French Provincial" tradition. This style echoes the simple and very tasteful architecture and housewares of the French countryside. Defining attributes of the French provincial style are balance, symmetry, weightiness, and pale colors. This allows Manoir to be easily coupled with brightly colored table linens, napkin rings, floral center pieces, and a wide variety of crystal and silver patterns.
