In 2006, Gorham celebrated its 175th birthday.
To commemorate this special occasion, their artists created a special sterling
and crystal bell, complete with a scalloped crystal body and a sterling handle,
inspired by the famous Chantilly sterling pattern. Chantilly is
one of the most popular flatware patterns in sterling history, and was designed
by William Christmas Codman (1839 - 1921) for Gorham Silver in 1895. The very
special collector’s bell we feature here was done to commemorate both Gorham
and the Chantilly pattern. The inscription on the front of the bell
handle reads, “1831-2006.” The back of the handle reads “Gorham
Sterling.” For a limited time (and while supplies last), we offer this
heirloom quality collector’s bell. Gorham’s Chantilly has
been the service of choice on the U.S. Presidential jet, Air Force One.
Chantilly's graceful border, plain center, and
fleur-de-lis tip are inspired by the “Rococo” design style of the
18th century French "Regency" period. During the reign of King Louis
XV, the French court had a strong appreciation for the humanities, particularly
art. Rococo was derived from the latter part of the Baroque period and featured
elaborate designs involving scrolls and curves which imitated swirls, shells
and leaves. The presence of the Rococo style could be seen in rooms, paintings,
furniture, clothes and dinnerware of the time. The period featured a pleasing
contrast of ornate decoration and understated grace. Chantilly’s wonderful
design, paired with Gorham’s unwavering quality craftsmanship, has made
this pattern a best seller for over 100 years. Replacements, Ltd. carries original
pieces featuring the “lion/anchor/G” backstamp
as well as pieces with the “Gorham” backstamp.
We also have a great selection of hollowware and monogrammed pieces in this pattern
as well. Do not miss this unique opportunity to acquire Gorham’s 175th
Anniversary Sterling and Crystal Chantilly Bell. |
