This
month, we have a truly extraordinary featured pet. “Louis” belongs
to Janelle Rivers, a member of our showroom sales team and is a mini-lop rabbit. Mini-lop
rabbits are known for their large bodies, thick fur, and floppy ears. This
particular breed of rabbit is extraordinarily popular in the United States and
Holland. When they curl up, some people say they feel like a furry basketball. This
breed of rabbit was discovered in 1972 at a German exposition of rabbits. It
made its American debut in 1974.
Louis was adopted by Janelle from a local pet store 3 1/2 years ago. At
the time, he was small enough to fit into a loaf pan. Janelle immediately
fell in love with Louis and decided that she would not keep him in a cage but
train him to use a litter box. She had him neutered and began the training
process. Eventually, Louis got the hang of it and now he has free reign
over the house.
Janelle describes her lovable Bunny as very curious. He likes being
the center of attention at her house. Janelle said that she has had to
bunny proof the house. Louis, in an attempt to remind Janelle to save
energy, once attempted to chew through an electrical cord. He loves taunting
Janelle’s dog, Ennis. Jokingly, Janelle said that Louis is always
into something including hip-hop music (the preferred choice of bunny rabbits). Also,
he likes classic literature and has been known to tear through a book. He
really likes to sink his teeth into things. Louis does come to Replacements,
Ltd. in a cage. He generally spends the day sleeping and Janelle provides
him with carrots throughout the day. When he is free or at home, he maneuvers
around by hopping in a zig-zag formation. This is also how he dances while
listening to hip-hop.
When asked what she liked most about Replacements pet-friendly policy, Janelle
had this to say, “I love to bring Louis to work in the showroom so that
he can see all the work that I do. Customers love to see him behind the
counter and employees regularly stop by to bring him carrots. Louis always
makes me smile while I’m at work.”
